What to Expect From An At Home Newborn Photoshoot
When looking for a newborn photographer you will find that you have the choice of either an in studio photoshoot or an at home photoshoot. Some newborn photographers will only do one or the other but some may offer both. There are pros and cons to each but at the end of the day the location of your newborn photoshoot should not affect your final gallery of photos. To help you consider the differences should you be unsure of which is best for you and your family here are some pointers to think about -
With an at home newborn photoshoot;
You don’t have to plan what time you need to leave the house, think about parking or have a bag packed to take out with you
As you will be at home you don’t need to think about timing anything around feeds or naps, you will be in your own home with everything to hand
As said above, you will have everything you need to hand so there is no need to think about a thing but just do everything as you normally would
It’s easy to do outfit changes, change your mind about an outfit and not have to worry about any spillages or blowouts
When your photographer arrives at your home you can finish getting ready whilst they set up or perhaps start photographing baby
If you have older children they can play whilst they are not needed during the photoshoot
For some, being in your own home will perhaps make you feel more at ease and comfortable, this can be particularly true for little ones
Your home is in the photos meaning you can always look back at your photos and remember your home at that time
You may decide you want to use a special item in your photos which you can easily get
When the photoshoot is finish you don’t have anywhere to go but sit down and relax
Potential downsides:
You need to have space for the photoshoot equipment which could include a backdrop, posing beanbag, lights - your newborn photographer will be able to tell you before what size space they will need
Your home will likely be in the background of your photos so this is something you need to be happy with
Using your home space could limit some photo options due to the space to hand or props needed but definitely speak to your newborn photographer about this before you book as if this is the case it should be very limited
There are more distractions at home for younger and older children
Having an in studio photoshoot can feel like more of an occasion, something a little different and a new experience
An in studio photoshoot gets you out the house and takes you somewhere new
If you love a newborn photographers style and think they will be the one to capture your special little newborn just the way you hoped then try not to let the location of the photoshoot put you off. As a newborn photographer that only offers at home photoshoots my style is more leaning towards lifestyle photography however I have the ability to give your photos a studio feel should you wish for this. Every photographer will make you feel as comfortable as possible in the space, will do everything at your baby’s pace and will only end the photoshoot when they are happy that they have all the shots.
Neither is secondary to the other as both will capture the start of your amazing newborn journey, all the tiny details, your precious bond and growing family.
